Notre Dame RHP Matt Bedford Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

May 21, 2024

Notre Dame RHP Matt Bedford has officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. It comes a day after catcher Tony Lindwedel made the same decision. Both will be graduate transfers after graduating over the weekend.

Bedford was used as Notre Dame’s Friday night starter in 2024 and made 15 starts (Tied for the lead in the ACC) for the Irish. The Staten Island native finished with a record of 3-6 while recording an ERA of 4.65 with 40 strikeouts in a team-high 62.0 innings of work.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder also finished No. 8 in the ACC in opponent batting average as teams hit just .240 against him this season in 388 at-bats. He also set a career-high for strikeouts with seven against Miami in a 6-2 win on March 22nd.

In 2023, Bedford appeared in 14 games with two starts and finished with 18 strikeouts in 21.o innings.

Bedford debuted for the Irish on May 10th of 2022 and immediately provided depth for Notre Dame’s run to Omaha, where he saw action in four NCAA Tournament games, including appearances against Tennessee and Oklahoma.

For his career, Bedford tallied a record of 5-9, an ERA of 5.30 and 71 strikeouts in 91.3 innings while walking just 43 batters.
