SOUTH BEND - Larry Moon III‍ was one of the obvious standouts from Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion Camp here on Sunday.

“I think I did real good,” the 2027 Pennsylvania defensive back said afterward. “I showcased my skills and how I can get in and get out my breaks.”

Moon did better than “real good.”

The Aliquippa High School star did good enough to earn a scholarship offer from Marcus Freeman after the camp.

“It's real special because Notre Dame has got a real good tradition in football,” the 5-foot-11, 170-pounder said.

Moon adds the Irish to a lengthy list of offers that also includes schools like Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, LSU, Michigan, Miami, Michigan State, North Carolina, Nebraska, Wisconsin and USC among several others.

Freeman’s message was clear.

“He said, 'Just come here. This place offers a lot more than football,’” Moon recalled.

“He was being real.”

Notre Dame defensive backs coach Mike Mickens was clearly impressed with Moon’s workout.

“He said he really liked my technique and liked me as a football player,” Moon said.

A small group of defensive backs made for plenty of reps during one-on-ones, sometimes consecutively. But the workload wasn’t too much for Moon.

“I love competing, so I didn't really think about it,” he said. “I'm always competitive. I just love competing.”

He didn’t get a full campus tour, but Moon did get a chance to check out the facilities.

“It's real nice,” he said. “I saw the gold helmets. The gold helmets are crazy.”

Moon will head to camps at Ohio State and Ole Miss next, but said he’ll definitely be back in South Bend.

“I want to come out to a game.”
