Notre Dame will head into spring practice on Friday with one less player on the defensive side of the ball as sophomore Spencer Perry has decided to transfer.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pounder was an early enrollee last January, but struggled to get on the field after coming off shoulder surgery his senior year of high school. Perry did play in special teams in six games for Notre Dame in 2016.
The Newnan (Ga.) native finished his high school career at IMG Academy (Fla.) after playing at Auburn High School (Ala.), Newnan High School (Ga.) and The Heritage School (Ga.).
Perry had recently made a move to the Rover position in new defensive coordinator Mike Elko’s scheme from safety.
