2025 SG Braylon Mullins Shines at Notre Dame Team Camp, High on Fighting Irish
2025 Greenfield-Central (Ind.) shooting guard Braylon Mullins made his way up to Notre Dame on Thursday for the first team camp under Micah Shrewsberry.
The 6-foot-5 four-star arrived at Notre Dame’s practice facility about 30 minutes before one of the marquee games of the day that put him against Lawrence North and star guard Azavier Robinson - and it lived up to the hype in a close game from start to finish.
“I played against him last summer,” Mullins said of Robinson. “It’s fun playing against him. He does a lot. He plays great defense and it’s really hard to get around him sometimes. It’s fun and he’s going to do great things. Hopefully, he gets to go to the school he wants to be at.”
Mullins also embraced the opportunity to compete against teams outside of Indiana and facing players he hadn’t played against before as Notre Dame also hosted teams from Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.
“It’s fun playing against teams that are from outside of Indiana,” explained Mullins. “I think our next game we are playing a team from Illinois. It shows who is better Indiana or Illinois or Indiana or Ohio. It’s fun playing teams out of state.”
Notre Dame is a school the Indiana native is familiar with as he took an unofficial visit to South Bend in September where he got to spend some quality time with the staff.
“I was on campus for the Ohio State-Notre Dame football game last fall,” said Mullins. “It was great. I was here all day and Coach Shrews showed a lot to me - the plays and how I can be in the offense. It’s great to be back here.”
Mullins also noticed Notre Dame’s highly touted recruiting class, who was on campus for the team camp.
“They brought in a good class of freshmen,” Mullins stated. “Cole Certa from IMG and they are all watching. It looks like they all bond well together. The culture piece is what I focus on a lot - team building and everything. That’s definitely one thing standing out.
“Everyone is here watching. All the coaches. It means a lot.”
Regarding the big picture, Mullins likely had a good idea of his final schools until about four weeks ago, when his recruitment was shaken up in a positive way.
Alabama, UConn, Creighton, Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee and Virginia have all offered the Greenfield-Central star since May 19th.
Mullins has decided to slow down his process to evaluate his new options as he now has the opportunity to play for some of the best programs in the country. Indiana is the lone program to have an official visit set as Mullins will head to Bloomington on September 20th.
“I was trying to make my commitment before my senior year, but I now may push it back, so it’s 50-50,” Mullins explained. “I have a lot more offers than I did. I’m trying to take a lot of officials in the fall.
“I have a good group of schools, but I don’t have that certain 12. I’m trying to get to 10 by the end of June and then I’ll cut it down to four or five before the season starts.”
Notre Dame is in a good spot to survive the cut as they got in early and have done a strong job to this point.
“I have them in there right now,” stated Mullins. “It’s close to home. It’s like 2.5 hours for me. That’s a main thing. Coach Shrews told me he plays freshmen, so it gives me an opportunity too.”
And for good measure, Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman made a quick recruiting pitch in the lobby of the Irish practice facility before Mullins’ first game.
“He asked if I played out wideout,” laughed Mullins. “He looks like a great guy. He’s a great coach and means a lot to this program.”
