2026 DB Jakob Weatherspoon Fired Up for Notre Dame Offer, Time with Mike Mickens

2026 Avon (Ohio) defensive back Jakob Weatherspoon‍ put a stamp on his camp season as he made the 3.5-hour trip to South Bend on Monday and left campus with an offer from Notre Dame. 

“It was so great, to be honest,” Weatherspoon told ISD. “I had a great time at camp and I performed really well.” 

The 5-foot-11, 172-pounder got a strong feel for the Notre Dame staff during the camp, including defensive backs coach Mike Mickens and his coaching style. 

“I actually liked the way he coaches,” said Weatherspoon‍. “He’s pretty laid back. He’ll give you the coaching, but the way he does, it was just really good for me.” 

Following the camp, Notre Dame recruiting associate Carter Auman showed Weatherspoon‍ around The Gug before taking him to meet head coach Marcus Freeman. 

“It was great,” stated Weatherspoon‍. “I think Coach Freeman is a really good guy. He’s down to earth and very genuine. He knows a lot and seems like he really cares for his players.” 

Weatherspoon‍ has had a big month when it comes to building his offer sheet as Illinois, Marshall, Ohio State, Pitt and Wisconsin have also offered the Ohio native. 

“It’s been exciting,” Weatherspoon‍ said. “I’m blessed to be in the spot I’m in. It’s also hard, but that’s what comes with it. I’m not complaining.

“Growing up, I didn’t know I’d be in this position.” 

The Avon star will now start to focus on the upcoming season, but Weatherspoon‍ plans to make a few more visits next month and Notre Dame is a school under consideration. 

“I’m going to try to get a couple visits in July,” said Weatherspoon‍. “I’m going to try to make it out for the BBQ, but I definitely want to make it out for a game.”
