Notre Dame and Shawn Stiffler Hire Lucas Jones
Notre Dame baseball coach Shawn Stiffler has made his next hire for the program as Lucas Jones will join the Fighting Irish program.
The long-time baseball veteran will oversee the infield, baserunning and help with hitting. Ryan Munger is set to be promoted to hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the program.
Jones, who was the associate head coach at the University of Lynchburg in 2024 after spending 2017-2023 as the head coach, led his alma mater to its first and only Division III baseball national championship in 2023.
Lynchburg also won ODAC (Old Dominion Athletic Conference) championships in 2021 and 2023.
Jones played baseball at Lynchburg after spending a year at Lenoir-Rhyne College. In 2005, Jones was named ODAC Player of the Year, All-State Player of the Year, South Region Player of the Year, First Team All-American, and Lynchburg Male Athlete of the Year for his efforts as a first baseman.
VCU gave Jones his first coaching job as a volunteer assistant in 2007 while he earned his master’s degree and crossed paths with Stiffler, who was in his first year as an assistant with the Rams.
Jones then went to Randolph-Macon College before spending three seasons as George Mason. In 2014, Jones took the head coaching job at Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia and finished 77-32. Washington and Lee was his next stop and he went 54-28 and was voted ODAC Coach of the Year in 2016.
