2026 S Jordan Deck Remains Interested In Notre Dame
Jordan Deck was excited when the 2026 Texas safety picked up an offer from Notre Dame.
Long a fan of former Irish star safety Kyle Hamilton, the offer immediately got his attention.
Heading into his junior season at Lone Star High School, Deck is confident he’s taken tremendous leaps in the mental and physical aspects of playing the position.
“I'm way more patient in coverage now,” the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder says. “I'm way better with my eyes, way better at reading the quarterback. Then, the physical aspect of the game, that always just gets better because last year was my first year playing defense. This being Year Two, of course I'm going to be better, more physical, better at tackling, angles are getting better. It just comes with playing the position more.”
Deck acknowledges being less comfortable during his first season on the defensive side of the ball.
“Last year, I was nervous and timid back there, but I'm way more comfortable now because I'm comfortable and patient,” he says. “That's definitely going to help me make more plays. We've got a great d-line, so that's going to help me make more plays on the ball as well.
“You can't fall asleep back there. Some teams will not throw at you and some teams will. I hope they do try me though because that's just giving me more opportunities to make more plays. We never run from that. We've got a great defense all across the board, especially our linebackers d-line, so it is going to be on all year.”
Deck has a lengthy list of scholarship offers that includes Notre Dame along with schools like Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Arkansas, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin among others.
He’s kept in touch with several schools, including Notre Dame.
“They just send me what's going on in the program, updates and stuff like that,” Deck says.
He’s hoping to make it to South Bend at some point, but says it may be difficult to get there for an unofficial visit.
“Just the campus really,” he says of what he’d like to see if is able to make it. “Because everybody has nice facilities. At that level, everybody's facilities are going to be nice. I really want to see the campus and how everything runs and ask the players how they like it, what they like about Notre Dame.”
He took regional visits to Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas last month.
“They were good,” says Deck. “I really liked Arkansas. I liked OU. I've been to A&M multiple times, so it's just kind of like a reunion.”
He isn’t sure what trips he’ll be able to make for games this fall.
“I plan on it, but it's kind of hard when you're so focused on playing your game,” he says. “I don't know what games I'm going to make or not or not. I'm just focusing on my games.
“Now, I'm getting ready for the season. I'm keeping the main thing, the main thing, so I'm just going to focus on my performance and then later on, once the season's over, I'll focus on recruiting. But as far as recruiting, I'm going to put that on hold because I got to focus on performing on the field for my team.”
