It didn’t take Braydon Johnson‍ long to accept an invitation to attend Notre Dame’s home opener against Northern Illinois this weekend.

“They DM'd me on Instagram and asked me if I would like to come to the game,” the 2026 Ohio running back says.

“I said 'Of course.'”

The Lakota West High School standout knows enough about Notre Dame to recognize the opportunity put before him.

“It is just a great program, good academics, and it's really appealing to me,” he says.

“I just want to see how the team meshes together, see what the coaching staff is like. Of course, see the campus, see how nice it is.”

The 5-foot-11, 215-pounder has early offers from Pitt, Miami-Ohio, Toledo, Ball State and Kent State.

“It's great,” he says of his current offers. “I love that I have the ability to have the opportunity. Of course I couldn't do it without my coaches getting me out there, but I love that.”

He’s also been in touch with other power programs.

“I'm talking to a lot of different Power Five schools that haven't offered me yet, but I'm in good contact with them,” he says.

College coaches like Johnson’s style as a runner.

“I think it's the way I sit behind my pads, read the holes and hit the holes very hard,” he says of what college scouts have told him.

He has some other visits on his docket for the fall.

“On the 14th, I'm going to Miami-Ohio vs. UC,” he says. “The 21st, I'm going to Pitt, and then October 26th, I'm going to Wisconsin. Then in November, I'll be at Indiana.”

Academics and distance from home will be factors in his final decision, but he doesn’t want to stay close to home.

“I want to get really far away from home,” he says.”

Is South Bend far enough from West Chester, Ohio?

“It depends. It depends on how the campus is.”
