Micah Shrewsberry’s journey toward upgrading the Notre Dame men’s basketball program took a major leap forward on Wednesday when the Irish landed a commitment from five-star 2025 Indiana swingman Jalen Haralson‍.

Shrewsberry and the Irish beat out Midwestern powers like Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue among several others to land the 6-foot-7, 210-pounder who is considered one of the top 15 players in the entire country.

“He's an unbelievable talent,” Haralson’s EYBL coach Jon Avery told Irish Sports Daily. “I've known him since he's very young and he's always been a bigger kid, but he's always had a guard skillset.

“There was never a time where I saw him and I said, 'OK, well he'll play the post.' Even though he was above and beyond taller than everybody else on his team. He's always been able to show that he's a guard.”

On top of that, the La Lumiere School is a teammate first.

“He's always been a very unselfish player,” Avery said. “He's always been a player who wants the team to succeed, not himself.

“They're going to get a selfless individual. They're going to get somebody who's committed to working.”

Haralson averaged almost 20 points with over six rebounds and two assists per game for the Indy Heat on this summer’s EYBL circuit.

Aside from his physical gifts, Haralson checks the intangible boxes as well.

“They're going to get a gym rat, they're going to get an amazing kid, they're going to get an amazing family,” said Avery. “They're going to get somebody who's 100 percent committed to what's going on, and who is going to buy into the community as much as buying in from the basketball standpoint.”

He took an official visit to Notre Dame the first weekend of September, one week after taking an official to Indiana and one week before taking an official to East Lansing.

Haralson joins Notre Dame two days after his Indy Heat EYBL teammate, Brady Koehler, announced his commitment to the Irish. Avery is convinced Haralson and Koehler will make major impacts in South Bend.

“Him and Brady are both just rare talents,” the coach said. “If they say they've been working on it for the past week, you'll actually see it in their games.

“I think both of them can be all-conference players. I think they are culture-changers. I think they help you build a better foundation moving forward, especially for a school like Notre Dame. It just helps sustain what they're already building there.”
