2026 CB Jakob Weatherspoon Talks "Great" Notre Dame Trip
After picking up an offer from Notre Dame after working out at an Irish summer camp Jakob Weatherspoon knew he’d be back in South Bend.
And on Saturday, the 2026 Ohio cornerback made his return to see the Irish dismantle Florida State, 52-3, on Saturday night.
“I thought it was great,” the Avon High School star told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “The fans were rocking, the place was rocking. Team looked good.
“I learned that they could play some good football.”
He was especially impressed with the defense and the secondary.
“When they only held them 3, it seems like they did their job,” Weatherspoon said. “The corners played good, pick-six at the very end. Big plays.”
The 5-foot-11, 172-pounder said he “100 percent” could see himself playing in the scheme under defensive backs coach Mike Mickens.
“I think Coach Mick definitely coached the guys up well,” he said. “They all seem to play patient and play right.”
Weatherspoon had quick chats with Mickens, defensive coordinator Al Golden and head coach Marcus Freeman, who all delivered a simple message.
“Just to keep working, good luck in the playoffs and they hope to see me there soon again,” he recalled.
He had the opportunity to speak with family members of some of the current commits and came away feeling they were “definitely” the kind of people he believes he would fit in with well.
“They all seem to have their heads on straight,” he said. “They know what they want, so I think that's why they go there.”
In addition to Notre Dame, Weatherspoon has offers from schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Duke and Northwestern among several others.
He’ll visit Ohio State at the end of the month for their rivalry game against Michigan, but intends on returning to South Bend in the future as well.
He will continue to evaluate schools as he goes through the process and will ultimately begin trimming his list. Asked if the Irish had a good chance to make the initial cut, Weatherspoon said, “100 percent.”
“Notre Dame's got a family. I think that's what they've got, family.”
