BREAKING | 2025 K Erik Schmidt Flips To Notre Dame
This Notre Dame recruiting staff has shown the ability to get work done behind the scenes regardless of position.
A month after flipping a high-profile quarterback from Clemson in Blake Hebert seemingly out of nowhere, the Irish have done it again, this time at kicker.
Notre Dame has flipped one of the top kickers in the nation.
Erik Schmidt committed to Wisconsin back in June, but the Milwaukee native just announced he was flipping his pledge to the Irish on the eve of National Signing Day.
Schmidt gives Notre Dame 24 verbal commitments heading into Wednesday’s signing day.
The Marquette University High School standout had been atop the Irish’s board among specialists dating back to the summer, but they were unsure if they would have a scholarship offer available to him until recently.
Schmidt was high enough on Notre Dame to consider a preferred walk-on spot with the Irish, but ultimately committed to the in-state Badgers.
He could kick or punt - or do both - in college.
“It honestly depends where I go,” Schmidt told ISD back in the summer. “I'm confident that I can do both. I can do either, so it really just depends where I go. I think at Notre Dame, I'm more likely to kick.
“Doing both is very difficult at that level, so I don't expect to do both, but it would be nice.”
