BREAKING | Notre Dame Lands Virginia Grad Transfer WR Malachi Fields
Notre Dame is officially off and rolling the Transfer Portal as Virginia graduate transfer Malachi Fields has committed to play his final year for the Fighting Irish.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is one of the nation’s top pure athletes and it’d be hard to find a more productive receiver in the Transfer Portal as Fields has tallied back-to-back 800-yard plus seasons.
In 2024, Fields registered 55 catches for 808 yards and five scores after recording 58 receptions for 811 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. Fields will finish his career at Virginia with 129 receptions for 1,849 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Against Notre Dame in November, Fields recorded four receptions for 81 yards.
Fields also checked in at No. 66 on Bruce Feldman’s Freak List over the summer as the Virginia native has some ridiculous testing numbers. The Irish will be getting a receiver who recorded a close-grip bench of 365 pounds and did 21 reps at 225. Fields also recorded a front squat of 355, 38-inch vertical, 10-7 ½ broad jump, 4.18 shuttle and hit over 22 mph on GPS.
Boundary receiver is where Fields projects, which could be a little thin for the Irish as Beaux Collins will exhaust his eligibility, while Deion Colzie and Jayden Thomas will have decisions to make on their final year. Freshman Micah Gilbert preserved his redshirt, while the incoming signee Jerome Bettis Jr. could end up in the boundary.
Fields is the second transfer to land at Notre Dame as he joins Alabama graduate transfer defensive back DeVonta Smith.
