BREAKING | Notre Dame Lands Former Arkansas TE Tyrus Washington
Notre Dame needed to add depth at key positions through the Transfer Portal and the Irish have done just that. The latest commitment is former Arkansas tight end Tyrus Washington, who will have two years of eligibility left.
The 6-foot-4, 247-pounder redshirted in 2022 and then made 11 catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in just nine games.
In 2024, Washington played in seven games and made two catches for 25 yards and one score before being dismissed from the program at the of October for a violation of team rules.
On the 4th-and-5 Podcast, Washington explained that he found out his grandmother was going to hospice before the Mississippi State game and told the Arkansas staff he wasn’t in the frame of mind to play when they asked him to go in during the fourth quarter.

The Leesburg (Ga.) native is familiar with the Notre Dame staff as he held an offer from Cincinnati coming out of high school. Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock led the recruitment and Washington took an official visit to the Bearcats program in 2021.
Washington will provide depth to the Notre Dame tight end room and give Denbrock another big-time athlete to mold. With Mitchell Evans headed to the NFL and Kevin Bauman out of eligibility, Washington will join Cooper Flanagan, Eli Raridon, Jack Larsen and incoming freshman James Flanigan in the room.
