Notre Dame OL Rocco Spindler Enters Transfer Portal

Notre Dame offensive lineman Rocco Spindler has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal as a graduate transfer.

Spindler, who was one of Brian Kelly’s biggest recruiting wins, played in 40 career games for the Irish during his career.

As a junior, the 6-foot-5, 325-pounder won the right guard spot and started 10 games before a season-ending knee injury ended his season at Clemson.

Spindler had surgery on his knee and his shoulder, which slowed him down during spring ball and then Joe Rudolph decided to go young in fall camp as he took the Michigan native and Pat Coogan out of the starting lineup.

In week four, Spindler made his first start of the season, filling in for an injured Billy Schrauth and never gave it up as he started the final 13 games of the year at right guard. Spindler not only won the right guard spot as Schrauth moved over to left guard when he returned, but he showed his ability to play hurt.

Spindler suffered an ankle injury against Indiana in the first round of the College Football Playoff, but then made key starts in Notre Dame’s next three games, including Monday’s National Championship game.

Coming out of high school, Spindler was a top 5 guard by all recruiting services and Notre Dame held off Michigan, Penn State and LSU for his commitment.

As it relates to Notre Dame, the Irish will have several young players ready to compete for interior jobs and Spindler shouldn’t lack interest from other teams as he started 23 games for the Irish.
