Marcus Freeman’s hiring of Chris Ash might have seemed out of nowhere, but in talking to several folks around college football, it’s very clear Notre Dame’s next defensive coordinator is respected. 

There are definitely a few more risks with Ash than, say, Al Golden, who also came from the NFL to be the DC in South Bend. 

Ash’s ability to coach up players and his IQ are unquestioned.
