There’s technically been a quarterback competition for Notre Dame the last two seasons, but no one ever had any doubt who was going to win the job in either situation. Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard were two transfers who were brought in specifically to step in and start for the Irish. No one was thinking that it wouldn’t be them who were starting in week one.
