2027 Top Texas WR Tay Ellis Talks Notre Dame Offer

Antayvious Ellis‍ hadn’t heard much from Notre Dame before last week, but when the 2027 Texas receiver got on the phone with Irish receivers coach Mike Brown for the first time on Friday, he landed a scholarship offer. 

“He just told me that he liked my film, he liked how fast I was, liked the way I get in and out of my breaks,” says Ellis. “He just really loved my film and told me that I was one of the best receivers in the country. Then he extended the offer to me.

“I was really shocked just because Notre Dame has a prestigious coaching staff as well as being one of the top academic institutions in the country, so I was really shocked.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder from Crowley High School also has offers from schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Duke, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Pitt, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and USC among others. 

Now that he has the offer from the Irish, he is looking forward to getting to know Brown, head coach Marcus Freeman and the rest of the staff better.

“Develop a relationship with Coach Freeman and Coach Brown,” he says. “Get up there just to realize what they're doing on the offense and the offensive scheme. I like the way they have passed the ball recently, especially against Ohio State. They were close to winning, so that was a big game that I watched, that I really paid attention to and their offensive production. 

“Really just get up there for a practice and see how well they practice and things of that nature.”

Ellis says he hopes to make it to South Bend this spring. 

He already has a pair of spring visits scheduled.

“I will be at Texas April 12th and I will be at USC April 26th,” he says.

He has an early idea of what will matter most when it comes time to make a decision.

“The most important thing it comes down to is production and getting to The League because that's the end goal. And then just the relationship aspect. I'm big on relationships, so the number one thing would probably have to be our relationship and can you get me to The League and your production.”
