Brian Williams Jr‍ had been familiar with Notre Dame, but the 2026 Florida receiver is about to get a lot more familiar with the University after landing a scholarship from the Irish last week.

“Coach Mike Brown hit me up and let me know that they've been watching me for a long time and that I got it,” Williams explained, adding that his only contact with the Irish had been through social media prior to speaking with Brown about the offer.

“I know it's an independent school, great education and a great football program as well. And that is in Indiana. That's all I know for the most part.”

Well, he also knows his classmate at Lake Mary High School, Noah Grubbs is committed to play quarterback for Notre Dame.

“That's my guy,” Williams said of Grubbs. “He just told me how it's a great school and that me going there is going to set me up for life. Me being there, I'm going to have a shot at the NFL, and even without the NFL, I have chances to go for a long career in business because of how amazing the school is.

“He says it's a family environment, and the coaches make it feel like home.”

The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder would certainly welcome the chance to catch balls from Grubbs in college.

“It'd just be a great opportunity,” he said. “That's my guy. We have a connection. The possibility of it carrying on to the next level, it definitely does mean something.”

Williams, who also has offers from schools like Florida, South Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others, is hoping to get to South Bend for a visit this spring.

“Definitely just having to go up and check it out for myself and just building a connection with these coaches, seeing what they're all about,” he said.

He doesn’t have any favorites yet, though.

“Seriously, I'm just looking at all the schools that have offered me so far,” he said. “I haven't come close to making any decisions yet. I'm just definitely keeping my mind open.

“I have visits planned for Syracuse, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, USF, and FAU so far.”

He may not have any leaders yet, but he doesn’t intend to go too long before he makes a commitment.

“By June, I feel like I should have made a decision by then. All my official visits would be taken by then and it would just be time.”
