Defensive end Isaac Rochell is headed to Los Angeles. The Chargers took the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder with the 225th pick (Seventh round) of the 2017 NFL Draft. Rochell is the 15th Notre Dame player drafted by the Chargers franchise.

The Notre Dame captain registered 166 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and deflected seven balls in his time in South Bend.

Rochell committed to Notre Dame five days after linebacker Jaylon Smith to give the Irish a significant defensive boost in the 2013 recruiting class. The McDonough (Ga.) native picked Notre Dame over Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.

When he arrived in South Bend, Rochell saw action in four games his freshman campaign before he became a three-year starter for the Irish.

As a senior, Rochell recorded 56 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, and one sack.

It will be interesting to see where Rochell projects on the defensive line, as some scouts felt he didn’t have the pass rush to have an impact on third down, but plays with a high motor.
