Micah Rhodes may only be a freshman, but he already has the full attention of major college programs across the country.
A couple weeks ago, the 2028 Texas running back added Notre Dame to a growing list of scholarship offers.
“I was actually in class and my head coach called me down to his office,” the Klein Oak High School standout explained.
While in his office, Rhodes’ coach connected him with Irish running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, who had been by the school earlier in the day.
“He thinks that I'm a great fit for the program,” Rhodes said of Seider. “He likes the way I run the ball, and he thinks I'm just a great fit because I can also catch the ball out of the backfield. I can go out to the spots and that's kind of what they're doing with Jeremiah Love.
“He just thinks that I'm a great fit for the program.”
Despite already having big-time offers from programs like Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Penn State, Ole Miss and Oregon among several others, the Irish offer caught Rhodes off guard.
“It was definitely surprising,” he said.
Rhodes is grateful for all the early attention.
“It is really a blessing,” he said. “There aren't a lot of kids at my age who get offers like this, the big-time offers. It's just a blessing getting these offers at this young of age.”
The 5-foot-10, 178-pounder is hoping to make a trip to South Bend soon to meet head coach Marcus Freeman in person.
“I'm definitely trying to get a visit up there this summer to go and get a chance to talk to Coach Freeman and look at the school,” he said.
He has a few visits already outlined for the summer.
“I know I'm going to Boise because I've got to go down there this summer,” he said. “I'm going to Oregon. I've got to go to Ohio State. Those are the planned ones for right now.”
It’s early, but Rhodes has already identified a couple key factors to his ultimate decision.
“Most definitely the way they treat their players, not just on the field, but also off the field, if you're wanting to build a relationship with me off and on the field. Definitely the way the coaches coach, what they look for in players.”
