Purdue probably saw a golden opportunity after Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois last season. A win against a longtime rival could have been the thing to propel Ryan Walters’ program into being bowl-eligible after a four win debut for the first time head coach the previous season.

The worst possible scenario happened for Walters. An angry and motivated Notre Dame team beat the brakes off of Purdue.
