Somebody is going to be getting a damn good football player when Donovan Webb‍ makes his announcement next month, according to one of his assistant coaches.

“I can't say a negative word about him,” Panther Creek High School associate head coach/recruiting recruiting coordinator Jared Cate says of the 2026 Texas safety.

“He's as solid as they come.”

The 6-foot, 180-pounder is set to make his college choice public on July 2nd.

“Good family, great kid on the football field, off the football field,” says Cate. “And obviously really good football player; ball hawk, physicality, the whole deal. Can't say enough good things about him for sure.

“I know he has got some official visits planned and whatnot, but man, he's a super solid kid for sure.”

Webb has already taken officials to TCU and Baylor and has upcoming trips to Ohio State this weekend, followed by Michigan (June 6th) and Notre Dame (June 20th).

The off-the-field qualities jump out to Cate and the other Panther Creek coaches.

“He just got elected captain for us next year and that says a lot,” Cate adds. “That's voted on by his teammates. He's a glue guy for sure.

“You never have to worry about him missing a rep, skipping a rep, not going full speed in practice, things like that. He's one of the hardest workers on the team. He makes his teammates better by just being around him, for sure.”

But his God-given physical capabilities jump out as well.

“You name it,” his coach says of what Webb is capable of.

Cate recalls a recent Signing Day ceremony for some of Webb’s teammates in the school gymnasium.

“He was wearing slides, sandals,” Cate remembers. “I gave him a basketball and told him to go dunk it. He took one step, jumped and two-hand dunked it and his elbows almost hit the rim.

“He's just a freak. You name it; he can run, he can jump. He's got really good ball skills. He will come downhill and strike you. He's pretty special for sure.”

Notre Dame has a shot after extending an offer earlier this month and sending defensive backs coach Mike Mickens down to Texas to check on him.

“He is interested and he's looking forward to going up there from what I understand.”
