Zakai Murphy made the trip out to Notre Dame for Irish Invasion on Friday and the 2027 New Jersey receiver was pleased with his performance.
“I think did pretty good,” Murphy told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “They called me out for the best-on-best and I won that, so I think I did pretty good.
“I didn't come out with the offer, but I did good.”
The 6-foot, 187-pounder currently has offers from schools like Syracuse, Boston College, Minnesota, UCF and Washington.
He thought he displayed what he could do as a receiver during the camp.
“My routes,” he said of what he did best. “My routes on air, my one-on-one routes, the way I can catch the ball, my speed.”
The Irish coaches didn’t say a ton about his performance afterward, although they did say they thought he did good.
Murphy took in the Grill & Chill after the camp.
“It was cool,” he said. “We talked to the coaches. Then they had a little competition thing where we cooked for the coaches and they just tested it.”
Murphy was one of several Don Bosco Prep standouts in attendance and liked what he saw from Notre Dame.
“Their structure is really good,” Murphy said. “I like the way the school is because just like my school, Don Bosco. It's a good structure, so I could see myself there.”
Murphy expects to continue contact with the Irish and potentially return in the fall.
“They said they'll stay in touch,” he said.
“Actually, they said they're going to watch the film and get back to me, but they told me to come back up for a game and they will stay in touch. They said they liked me a lot.”
Murphy went to SMU on Saturday and Texas A&M on Sunday.
