Notre Dame Lands 2026 Big Man Gan-Erdene Solongo
Just a day after Notre Dame landed 2026 point guard Jonathan Sanderson, the Irish have landed another commitment in 2026 La Lumiere School (Ind.) big man Gan-Erdene Solongo.
Solongo’s commitment may come as less of a surprise than Sanderson’s, as the Sanderson family is the legal guardians of the 7-foot, 260-pounder.
The elder Sanderson, Jon, was named the Strength & Conditioning coordinator of the men’s basketball team last month, which set the table for Notre Dame to land both prospects.
The 7-foot, 260-pound Solongo averaged 12.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game last season at Ensworth High School (Tenn.). He fills a pressing need for Micah Shrewsberry’s program, which has prioritized adding size to the frontcourt.
With Solongo and 2025 freshman Tommy Ahneman (6’11”), the Irish have landed back-to-back recruiting classes featuring a boost in size in the post.
Basketball is relatively new to Solongo, who has citizenship in Ireland and Mongolia. Solongo arrived in the USA at 15, but needed permanent residence to stay following a year at The Flyght Academy (Ohio).
In need of permanent residency to remain in the country, Solongo was taken in by the Sanderson family, who became his legal guardians and helped provide stability during his development on and off the court.
