2026 TE Preston Fryzel Excited For Notre Dame Official
After being offered by Notre Dame last month, Preston Fryzel said he’d take an unofficial visit and if it went well, he’d return for an official.
The 2026 Ohio tight end took that unofficial visit last week and it well enough that Fryzel will be returning for that official this weekend.
“That was my first time ever being in South Bend, being on the campus,” Fryzel told Irish Sports Daily this week.
“That was probably one of my favorite visits for sure. I got to spend a lot of time with Coach (Mike) Denbrock and got to watch practice. I got to do basically everything I wanted to see at practice.”
He’s looking forward to learning more during this weekend’s official visit.
“For me, it would be continuing building relationships with the coaches and meeting the guys in the tight end room and just on the team, talking to them and stuff like that,” he said.
The Central Catholic High School standout has already been forming relationships with a couple key Notre Dame staff members.
“Me and Mike Martin, the GM, we stay consistent,” Fryzel said. “We text all the time as well as Coach Denbrock, we text regularly.”
The message from the Irish is about what they think the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder would bring to South Bend.
“I'd say I'm more of a receiving tight end,” he said. “They've kind of got the all around guys. They kind of need that receiving guy to come in who can be a mismatch on the outside, kind of play him as a wide receiver, but I'm still big enough to go in the box and block and be a problem.”
Fryzel is scheduled to take an official visit to Iowa next weekend.
“They have a good track record of putting guys in the NFL and tight ends,” he said of the Hawkeyes. “I think they're a program that can help me do the flip side. Obviously, like I said, I'm a receiving guy, but they can definitely help me grow into a true, true tight end, do both and be a mismatch.”
Fryzel hopes to have a decision sometime after the official visits, but may not wait that long.
“If one feels right, then I'm going to pull the trigger.”
