2027 OL Cameron Wagner Gets Valuable Time With Notre Dame’s Rudolph
2027 St Joseph-Ogden (Ill.) offensive lineman Cameron Wagner arrived at Irish Invasion with an offer in hand, but the main point of this visit was to get a better feel for Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.
“It was great,” stated Wagner. “He coached me up. There's points where I would mess up and he would have to coach me up, but I love getting coached by him and I love the way that he coached me.”
After two hours of work, the 6-foot-6, 300-pounder proved to be one of the offensive linemen at the camp, but accomplished his goal of learning more about Rudolph as a coach.
“Yeah, absolutely,” Wagner said when asked if he could see himself playing for Rudolph. “He's intense, but then he'll still help you at the same time. He'll get on you, but then he'll pull you aside and be like, ‘Hey, make sure your hands are more inside’ or whatever it is on that one rep. He’ll help you.”
Wagner also got the opportunity to work alongside 2026 Notre Dame offensive line commits Sullivan Garvin and Ben Nichols, and all three squared off against a deep group of defensive linemen.
“It was good competition,” explained Wagner. “I think I stacked up very well against them. It's some of the best competition in the country and I felt like I did a great job against them.”
The time with Garvin and Nichols left a positive impression on the Illinois native. Wagner had previously met both commits, but they really started to develop a bond last week.
“I met them in the spring,” Wagner stated. “I was there the same day I was. I really got to bond with them today. We did like a cookout where all the O-line was together. We actually won the competition, so we got to bond over cooking some steaks and chicken.”
It won’t come as a shock, but the offensive line won the grilling competition following Irish Invasion, and the time spent on the grill allowed Wagner to build rapport with everyone on campus.
“It was really fun,” said Wagner. “We all ate together. All of those guys that were there, we all ate, all talked to Coach Rob (Delaney), Coach Rudolph, stuff like that. We played some games, cornhole and stuff together.
“It was good competition. Then talking trash - the DBs were right next to us and we were talking trash next to them. It was still fun. We were just cooking.”
Wagner’s summer is far from over, as he has a busy schedule of visits and camps ahead.
“I have a mixture of camps and visits,” Wagner said. “I have Texas A&M Sunday, Illinois on the 11th, and Penn State 13th, Ohio State 17th, Nebraska the 19th and Florida the 21st.”
It’s very early in his recruitment, but Notre Dame appears to hold a strong position for Wagner following his latest visit.
“Absolutely,” said Wagner. “It was a great visit and just getting to know Coach Rudolph better, all their commits, Coach Rob, just all those guys, they really progressed and moved up on my board. It was a great day.”
