A decade ago in college football, the calendar was a lot different than it is today.

Signing day was still in February. There were no official visits in the spring and summer. There was no transfer portal window in December and January and then another one in the spring.

Players weren’t opting out after four games because there was no four game redshirt rule. Players didn’t leave in December to not play in the bowl game before moving on to their next school.
