2027 Don Bosco Prep WR Zakai Murphy Impresses at Irish Invasion
The Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) football program had a strong showing at Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion earlier this month, and 2027 wide receiver Zakai Murphy was at the center of it.
Murphy was a key prospect the Irish staff wanted to evaluate in person, and Murphy made the most of his opportunity in South Bend, showcasing his skills in front of receivers coach Mike Brown and the rest of the staff.
“I feel like I did well,” Murphy stated. “I dominated in the one-on-ones, I ran crispy routes with the routes on air, and they also called me out for the best-on-best, and I did better than that, so I feel like I did well.”
Murphy, who recently added offers from Pitt and Penn State, entered the event with confidence, but earning a spot in the final top group handpicked by the staff added another level of validation.
“It feels good because that means they're watching and they know I did good,” explained Murphy. “They wanted to see me on the biggest stage, so I appreciate that a lot.”
The New Jersey native took a simple but focused approach heading into the camp, allowing his natural abilities to shine despite there being some pressure with the staff closely watching.
“That I can run routes, that I can win in one-on-ones, that my hands are good,” Murphy said of what he showed the Notre Dame coaches.
In 2024, Murphy recorded 50 catches for 473 yards and six touchdowns, per NJ.com.
