After a couple unofficial visits led to his Notre Dame commit, Jonaz Walton‍ was excited about returning to South Bend for his official visit earlier this month.

“It was great,” the 2026 Georgia running back told Irish Sports Daily.

The official visit was a bit different for Walton, who announced his commitment back in May.

“We had a lot of downtime, so me and my mom, we walked around the campus and we saw a lot more,” he said. “It was different because in the past, it was all snowed in and looks a lot smaller. We were able to see a lot more of the campus.

“It's still my favorite campus that I've been to so far. I've visited some great ones, but it is really great, outstanding. That's one of my favorite campuses. But being able to see it again in the summer/spring, it is amazing. Definitely my favorite one. I'm so excited to be able to walk through there and experience it for the next four years.”

Walton also had additional time with his future running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider.

“He walked us through how they install, so we did a little mock install to see how it'd be for a spring practice,” Walton said.

“His family was there, not his son, but his daughter and his wife were there. It's nice seeing how he interacts with them. It was more relaxed because he's not trying to recruit and even when he was recruiting, he's still a pretty relaxed guy. But it was cool being able to see him just kind of vibe and enjoy the moment with us. He was cool.”

Walton also enjoyed spending more time with head coach Marcus Freeman

“Being able to sit down with Coach Freeman, just chopping it up again, seeing how it's been. Not really too much about football,” he said. “He's a great guy. It was just cool being able to talk to him about everything, about how great Notre Dame is, seeing him and just being able to catch up and everything.

“I also got to talk to a lot of the recruits and all of the commits who are going to be there when I'm there. It was a great weekend.”

Walton was excited to get around his future teammates as well.

“It was pretty cool,” he said. “It was just a little insight of how it will be when I first get there. Just being able to see some of these people that you see online, at camps and everything. Being able to finally meet them in person, it was a great experience. So it was good.”

And some of the prospects on campus for the June 13th weekend weren’t Notre Dame commits, but some are now and others likely will be in the future, according to Walton.

“We were definitely talking to them. As you can see, most of the people who were on OV that were uncommitted, they have committed to Notre Dame and a few of them I expect to also commit. Everybody was in their ears. I feel like they felt very comfortable there.”
