All that hand-wringing may have been for naught.

We’ll find out on Thursday.

For months, keen observers of Notre Dame recruiting were perplexed - and some were frustrated - by the lack of scholarship offers to quarterbacks in the Class of 2027.

Despite having landed its 2026 quarterback in June of last year, the Irish resisted the urge to send out a rash of early offers to signal-callers in the Class of 2027. In fact, they didn’t send out any until last month.

And even after months of evaluations, unofficial visits from quarterback prospects and Gino Guidugli attending several sessions to watch targets throw in person, the Irish only sent out a pair of offers.

One went to Louisiana’s Peyton Houston‍. And the other went to Georgia’s Teddy Jarrard‍.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder will make his college announcement on Thursday with Notre Dame as a finalist along with Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The Irish are considered by many to be the favorites.

Even before landing the offer from Notre Dame, Jarrard made it clear his interest was genuine and that went to a different level after a June visit to South Bend.

Guidugli was a major reason for Jarrard’s initial interest in Notre Dame and getting to know offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and head coach Marcus Freeman even better during the trip boosted the Irish a bit.

“He's a great guy,” Jarrard said of Freeman. “He's real personable and you can really relate to him and what he's been through. He was great to talk to and a really genuine guy, so that was a good time.”

Jarrard said Denbrock’s experience is proof the coach knows what he’s talking about.

“It was fun to get a little bit of wisdom from him being back and forth to Notre Dame multiple times,” Jarrard said. “His experience at other places, that's been good. He knows what he is doing as well. He's been through it and he knows the challenges and what it takes to be a quarterback at Notre Dame. It was fun to talk to him.”

Jarrard was honored to receive one of the two Notre Dame offers a month ago.

“I think Notre Dame is a program that you've got to check a lot of boxes; as the type of person you are, you have to have the grades and you have to be a good person as well as being a good football player,” he said at the time.

“I think for them, I checked a lot of boxes. I think I fit the program and what I can do as well as what I can do off the field as a person. I think that's one of the bigger reasons why they chose me.”

At the time, Jarrard said if he felt right about a school this summer, he would commit before the season and if not, he’d take his recruitment into the fall.

Obviously, he feels right about one school and on Thursday, we’ll find out which one.
