Notre Dame has kept in touch with Michael Griffin since offering the 2027 North Carolina linebacker back in March.
“I was just talking to Carter Auman last week,” Griffin told Irish Sports Daily.
“He just hit me saying what's up.”
The West Charlotte HIgh School star was fired up to land the offer on the Irish’s Pot of Gold Day and was also excited to see them want to remain in communication.
“It means a lot for sure, because it is Notre Dame and I love it,” he said.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder has been impressed with the Irish from the start.
“I love how they cherish God, for sure,” he said. “I really like their defense. I really like how they run their defense. They just went to the national championship. It's hard to do that. You need a team to do that, a good team.”
The Irish have told Griffin they believe he could make an impact in South Bend and he agreed.
“I think I can,” he said. “I think that's a good place on and off the field. They lead you to being a real man.”
Griffin’s offer sheet also includes schools like Florida State, Michigan, Indiana and Virginia Tech among others.
He’s planning to visit South Bend soon.
“I'm definitely going to go watch a game this season,” he said. “I'd like to see how the coaches talk to their players, how they lead. I'd like to see how they play, obviously.
“I would like to take a trip around the facility, look at the facility a little bit, but that's not really my main thing. I really want to be with the team, see how they move around.”
Griffin said he also intends to visit Auburn this fall.
He’ll be looking way down the road when it comes time to choose a college, pointing to “development” as the biggest factor.
“I really want to be developed by a good coach who I know is going to develop me on and off the field and grow me to the man that I'm supposed to be and can be.”
