When Teddy Jarrard committed to Notre Dame, recruits around the country in the Class of 2027 took notice.
Including Antayvious Ellis.
“Notre Dame actually just shocked me with that quarterback commitment from my 2027 class,” Ellis told Irish Sports Daily.
The 2027 Texas receiver said the addition of an elite prospect at the quarterback position like Jarrard opened his eyes even more to the Irish.
That comes on the back of another commitment Notre Dame landed that also caught Ellis’ attention.
“You have Brayden Robinson, that's my dog,” the Crowley High School star said of his fellow Texas receiver.
“He's been my dog since I was like 10 years old. So when he commits and he tells me about Notre Dame and the culture, I have to get up there to see it.”
Ellis asked Robinson, a 2026 prospect, why he picked Notre Dame.
“He just told me just about the culture,” Ellis recalled. “It's different. He had 40-something offers and he could have went anywhere in the country, but he chose Notre Dame.
“I asked him why he chose Notre Dame and he just told me, the culture is different, the atmosphere is different, the fan base is different. He fell in love with the place, so that stood out to me.”
Ellis expects to make his way to South Bend some time this fall.
“I don't when right now, but it'll be in the coming months probably,” he said.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder owns a lengthy off list that includes schools like Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon and USC among several others.
In addition to Notre Dame, he has a few other potential trips in mind.
“I'm trying to get back down to Texas,” he said. “I'm looking to try to get up to USC and Nebraska.”
Ellis expects to trim his list to a Top 10 at the end of his junior year.
“I feel like the biggest thing is just a family atmosphere and who can get me to The League, pro potential. I want to go to the next level and whoever can develop me to be one of the best receivers in the world, that's where I want to end up going.”
