Jonaz Walton‍ enters his senior season fired up and with confidence.

“I'm really excited for it,” the 2026 Notre Dame running back commit from Georgia says.

After a lengthy offseason of work, the 5-foot-10, 215-pounder feels he’s coming into the season as ready as ever.

“I would say I'm better at just using my abilities to the best I can; using my size to help block and make plays in space whether it be running over somebody or just using my speed,” he says. “Just being able to use my ability to the greatest extent.

“It's a great feeling, just being able to be as confident as I've ever been. Confidence is a major part in winning, so just having that confidence, it feels great.”

He expects that to show up on the field, which is why his personal goal is to have his best season yet.

“I had around 2,300 all-purpose yards last year, so I'm aiming to get past 2,500 my senior season just so I can improve,” says Walton.

But the Central High School star’s primary goal is a team one.

“The same goal as always, to win the state,” he says. “I feel like this is the most prepared we've been as a team so far in my years of high school, so I think we do really have a shot at it.

“It's my senior season, so I'm trying to enjoy every moment of it. We have a lot of new players on defense, a lot of underclassmen, some juniors. A completely new look on defense, but I feel we've gotten a lot better this summer. So, I'm really excited for this season.”

And, it’ll take a team effort to do so.

“Honestly, being able to pick up on blitzes and definitely stopping the run game,” he says. “I feel like our offense and our pass coverage is really stout right now, but just some few things with maybe our d-line, o-line, just being better at what they're doing.”

Walton, who expects to be back at Notre Dame for the Texas A&M and USC games this fall, is also excited about his future teammates in South Bend and being a part of the 2026 recruiting class.

“It's pretty cool,” he said. “We have the best DB class and I love all of the o-linemen that we got, great quarterback and then the great running back duo with me and Javian (Osborne).

“Our class being almost done and being able to be around those guys during the OV, I really like our class. We will get a national championship in our class.”

The idea of winning a national championship drives Walton and his fellow commits.

“Honestly, it'd be really special to have the first championship in a few decades. It would be incredibly special and I'd be so blessed to be a part of a situation like that.”
