Tavares Harrington made a quick stop down to South Bend a couple months ago and the 2027 Chicago safety will be back soon.
“I'll be down there September 13th versus Texas A&M,” the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder says.
The Mount Carmel High School standout was offered by the Irish back in April.
“It was big for me,” he says. “It's a big program with a big fan base and it's a big academic school, so it was a big offer for me.”
Harrington has dozens of offers from schools like Ohio State, MIchigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Northwestern, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Washington and UCLA among others.
Harrington made a trip to Notre Dame back in June.
“I went down and watched them at a camp,” he says. “They were coaching and I went down and watched it. I got to see them coach and walk around the facility.
“It was amazing to see the coaches coaching other kids and how they treat other people. It shows they have great coaches with experience.”
He’s looking to get an even better feel for the program this time.
“Just watch the team play and watch the coaches coach the players in a real game against another big school,” he says.
He will be busy checking out games around the country this fall.
“I'll be at Alabama, I'll be at Georgia, I'll be at Miami, I'll be at Ohio State,” he says. “I'll go see Michigan. I think that's all.”
He’s excited to seriously embark on the recruiting process.
“It's something I always wanted,” he says.
He doesn’t know exactly when he’ll narrow down his list, but he knows it’ll be cut down this winter.
“I don't have final dates yet, but I know for sure I want to be able to have at least a top list after the season; December, January,” he says.
One factor will stand above the rest when that time comes.
“Relationship with the coaches for sure. That would be the main thing.”
