Intriguing 2027 OL Target James Halter Set For Notre Dame Return
After a big offseason, James Halter is preparing for an even bigger season.
The 2027 Pennsylvania prospect played tight end his first two seasons at Central Catholic High School and the 6-foot-5, 270-pounder is now transitioning to his future and more natural position of offensive tackle.
Halter was actually more of an extra offensive lineman than a pass-catching tight end in the past, but some schools - like Notre Dame - are waiting to see him at tackle before completing his evaluation.
“They're still waiting to just see my actual game film with me playing at tackle versus just tight end,” says Halter.
“I think it's important for me to play well, so there's a little bit of pressure there, but I think you just have to approach it looking forward to it.”
Halter, whose father Jordan played offensive line for the Irish from 1989-1993, has visited South Bend several times in the past, most recently for the Irish’s Blue-Gold Game in April and Irish Invasion in June.
“I'm heading back for the A&M game,” he says of the Irish’s game against the Aggies next month. “I think it's going to be a really good gameday environment. That's their home opener, so it'll be a good game.”
He attended games as a youngster and was actually at the home playoff game against Indiana back in December, but this will be his first real game as a recruit.
“I actually want to see what it's like for the gameday, the atmosphere, how everyone is, and to see how it is there,” he says.
Halter has remained in contact with Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph as well as offensive line assistant Rob Delaney over the past few months.
“I think it's really important to me just to know that they're keeping their connection and building the relationship,” he says.
Notre Dame certainly has his attention.
“I really like their team culture, their development, and they have really good academics,” he says.
And he acknowledges that the family aspect of Notre Dame matters to him as well.
“It's really important to me and it's very real over there,” he says.
After Invasion, Halter hit camps at Ohio State and Penn State and picked up offers from both and expects to make stops at both for games this fall as well.
His offer sheet also includes Duke, Boston College, Auburn, NC State, Pitt and Michigan State.
Halter doesn’t know when he’ll trim his list down, but says it’s something he’ll likely wait until his season is finished before addressing.
