2017 Notre Dame receiver signee Jafar Armstrong committed to Notre Dame late in the recruiting cycle, so the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder hadn’t seen South Bend on game day.

The three-star prospect got a chance to get a small glimpse of the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium a few weeks ago at the Blue-Gold Game, and it didn’t disappoint the Kansas native.

“The Spring Game was pretty crazy, and it was cool to see all the people there,” Armstrong told Irish Sports Daily. “I haven’t been to a game at Notre Dame, so my first time seeing the game day atmosphere will be against Temple.

“I am excited to get there in June. The guys have been cool, and the coaches have built a great relationship with me.”

The Bishop Miege star also got to see his future home a little more in-depth on his most recent visit. Armstrong was able to see the smaller aspects of life at Notre Dame, and it only made him more comfortable with his decision.

“I got to see a lot on my official visit,” stated Armstrong. “I got to see how the campus really was at the Spring Game. I walked around campus and saw the students. It made me realize I made the right choice and I can’t wait to be there for the next four to five years.”

Del Alexander was a large part in Armstrong’s whirlwind recruitment, and the message has been simple.

“He has been telling me to be ready to come in and compete,” explained Armstrong. “They have some good starting receivers like EQ (St.Brown), Chase (Claypool), Miles (Boykin), and they have a ton of other good receivers there. I know I have to fit in and grind.

“We have a great receiving corps, and with Michael and I coming in, we can be really good. I am ready to come in and learn from the older guys.”

Armstrong also to see quarterback Brandon Wimbush in action for the first time. The two had known each other from his official visit, but Armstrong loved what he saw from his quarterback on the field.

“Brandon is a complete quarterback,” Armstrong stated. “He has a gun and is very accurate. He threw some great balls in the Spring Game, but he’s also very athletic and can make guys miss.

“He was my host on my official visit, and I love him. He’s a great guy and very responsible. He is the perfect guy to represent Notre Dame at the quarterback position. He’s been waiting for his time, and now he has an opportunity.”

The Irish only signed Armstrong and Michael Young at the receiver position in 2017, but both players are arriving with a chip on their shoulder.

“Mike and I both felt like we were underrated,” said Armstrong. “On National Signing Day, there was a thing on the ticker tape, and it read “Notre Dame didn’t sign any ESPN 300 receiver for the first time.’

“Mike and I both saw it at the same time and took a picture of it and sent it to each other at the same time. We told each other we have to prove them wrong. We have the hunger and the fight to prove people wrong. We are coming for a reason, and the coaching staff offered us for a reason.”

Armstrong and his classmates will report to South Bend in mid-June, and he couldn’t be more excited. The class has a strong relationship already, and they are ready to get to work.

“I am anxious and excited,” said Armstrong. “I saw a bunch of the 2017 and 2018 guys at the Spring Game, and we all have developed a good relationship. These guys are great guys, and we are excited to get to Notre Dame to just hang out and grind together.

"We want to go to school this summer and build a good relationship heading into the fall. We are going to be with these guys for the next four years, so I am excited to get with them.”

As he enters the next stage in his life, Armstrong will miss his circle of friends and family, but knows he is ready to take on the challenge awaiting him at Notre Dame.

“I will miss the support I have from family and friends over my life,” Armstrong said. “I have made some great friends and not seeing or hearing from those guys every day will be weird, but it’s part of growing up.

“I am going to miss my mom and dad. I have been with them for 18 years, and it will be weird being on my own. They raised me right, and I am responsible, and I know right from wrong.”
