Jourdan Blake had been trying to catch up with Tyson Robinson, but the Notre Dame Director of Player Personnel and the 2027 Mississippi running back kept missing each other.
“We kept trying to get on the phone with each other, but we practice so late that it's a bad time sometimes,” Robinson said.
The two finally connected last week.
“Me and the coach were talking for a little bit,” Robinson continued.
“He wasn't going to hold me because I was at lunch, but we just had a quick talk. He liked my film and he wants to get to know me.”
Blake also let the 5-foot-10, 200-pounder know that he had an offer from Notre Dame.
“It was lowkey kind of big, because I didn't expect it to be honest,” the Brandon High School star said of the Irish offer.
“It kind of caught me off guard. Notre Dame has been popping up a lot lately.”
Robinson has an impressive offer sheet already that includes schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Duke, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Arizona State, Stanford and Washington among several others.
He doesn’t know a ton about the Irish yet, but what he does know is positive.
“I like their coach,” Robinson said of Marcus Freeman. “He's young.
“And I know they run the ball pretty good. That's pretty much it. I didn't really watch them much back in the day.”
He’s hoping to learn more about Notre Dame and the people in the program now that he has the offer.
“I'm going to try to build a better connection with them and see what they can offer,” he said.
Robinson does have some trips locked in already.
“Alabama, Mississippi State,” he said. “I'm going to go to a Texas game and a Texas A&M game as well and Tennessee. I've got other visits as well.”
Indeed, Robinson’s schedule is already pretty well loaded, but he wouldn’t say it was too late for the Irish to find a way onto it.
“I wouldn't say too late,” he said. “I'll try to see if the games can match my schedule.”
Robinson does expect to narrow his list to a Top 10 in November and knows what he’ll be basing that cut on.
“The best connections I have and then obviously can I fit with the school? Am I good for the program?”
