Five Players To Watch

Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love
Love isn't just the best back in the country. He's one of the best players in the country and this is the first time he's been this healthy since injuring his knee in last year's regular season finale against USC. Notre Dame wants to get him the football in a variety of ways, so look for him to be utilized in the passing game more in this matchup.

Miami DE Rueben Bain
Bain had a fantastic freshman season in 2023, where he looked like a future top-10 pick. He dipped as a sophomore with a nagging injury and missed four games. Miami coaches have been raving about his offseason and if he's back to the player he was in '23, then he's the probably the best edge Notre Dame will face this fall. Anthonie Knapp and Aamil Wagner will be tested.

Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields
Notre Dame hasn't brought in a more accomplished transfer receiver than Fields. He had back-to-back 800-yard seasons despite spotty quarterback play at Virginia. Expect Mike Denbrock to set up some deep shots for CJ Carr to target Fields.

Miami QB Carson Beck
Beck is the big-money addition for Miami. They are hoping he ends up just like their last one, who ended up going first overall in the NFL Draft. He'll be throwing to a brand new set of receivers who will be matched up against one of the best secondaries in the country. If Miami can protect Beck well, he is capable of having a big day, but he was terrible when pressured last season at Georgia.

Notre Dame DT Jason Onye
Marcus Freeman said Onye had one of the best camps Freeman has seen from anyone during his four years at Notre Dame. Onye was in the midst of a breakout season last fall before leaving the team due to his mental health. He returned in the spring and it appears he's ready to build on that. If that happens, Onye will raise the ceiling for Notre Dame's defense and that would be very bad news for Miami.

Quotes of the Week

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman:
“I think you gotta be able to utilize those nerves, which is a natural human kind of instinct to have when you're anticipating a game. My thing for them is to remind them there's work that has to be put in. You hear me say all the time, delayed gratification. It's patience + work. We have to work these next 48 hours. You can't sit here and daydream about Sunday night and forget to understand the pain that you have to put in and practice the pain that's associated in achieving those things that you want.”

Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock:
“He's (CJ Carr) just going to keep coming. I love his competitiveness. And being good at playing the quarterback position, I think he got that when he was in the cradle, and maybe in the womb, you know what I mean? And it just is something that's fun to be around, and it's fun to see the type of competitiveness that he kind of goes about his business with.”

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chris Ash:
“If the personnel is out there and they can’t execute the game plan, they probably won’t be out there. That’s just the way we feel. That’s the expectation we have – that everybody knows and everybody can execute it.”

Notre Dame QB CJ Carr:
“It's going to be really exciting to go out Sunday with the world watching and let it loose.”

Notre Dame DL Donovan Hinish:
“We gotta send a message. We have to let people know we’re back. We’re not the same team as last year. We’re a new team. Watch out for us, too. We’re not backing out from nobody.

“I’m not going to try to hype it up like it’s an MMA fight, but it’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re definitely going to have to send a message with this game.”
