Dakota Guerrant kept in touch with Notre Dame over the summer, specifically with receivers coach Mike Brown and head coach Marcus Freeman.
“They want to get me down for a game so I could see the atmosphere for real,” the 2027 Michigan receiver says.
The Harper Woods star camped in South Bend last summer, but he wants to see more and the Irish want to show him more.
“I came in the summer, so I didn't really see as much,” he recalls. “They gave me a tour of the campus, but they want me to see a game, so I'll probably go for a game.”
Guerrant has one in mind, although it isn’t locked in at this point.
“When they play Texas A&M on Sept. 13th, I might go to that one,” he says.
He wants to get an idea of what Notre Dame is like on a fall Saturday.
“Just see how it feels,” he says. “I know that the school's not that big, but I also know they have their own TV deal and around there, that's like an NFL team.
“I just want to see, do they still have a good fan base or is it like every other college or is it a little different? A little better?”
Guerrant already has a good feel for the coaches in South Bend.
“I feel like they're all cool people and they’re heavy on choosing the hard way of school,” he says. “Don't choose the easy way, choose the hard way. I feel like they're straight-up people. They keep it real for the most part. That's always what you want.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder understands what the Irish mean when they challenge recruits to choose hard.
“Just don't try to take any shortcuts,” he says. “Go the route that you need to go, that's going to make you better and make you the best individual.”
It’s an approach Guerrant says resonates with him.
Guerrant has a lengthy offer sheet that includes schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, LSU, Alabama, Miami, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC and Oregon among several others.
He did check out Ohio State this past weekend and has a couple more he’s likely to take this fall.
“I'll probably go to a Michigan game, an Oregon game and a Penn State game,” he says.
He isn’t in a rush to trim his list down anytime soon.
“I'll probably narrow it down probably sometime next year during the 7-on-7 season, but nothing right now.”
