Cameron Wagner‍ has had this weekend’s visit to Notre Dame locked in since the summer and the 2027 Illinois offensive lineman remains excited.

“I think it's going to be great,” Wagner tells Irish Sports Daily. “It should be a great environment and I'm excited to see it.”

Wagner has already been to South Bend multiple times this year, but is looking forward to experiencing a gameday on campus.

“Basically just meet the fans there and the environment and just see if it's what I could see myself playing in,” the 6-foot-6, 300-pounder says.

Wagner was offered by the Irish during a visit back in March and returned for Invasion over the summer. He’s kept in regular contact with the staff since.

“It's basically weekly communication,”the St. Joseph-Ogden standout says. “They're texting me and sending graphics, stuff like that, and checking up on me.

“Nothing crazy, but pretty much constant contact.

Wagner hears from Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, Director of Recruiting Carter Auman and even head coach Marcus Freeman. Hearing directly from the head coach has definitely impressed Wagner.

“It's great,” he says of the messages from Freeman. “I'm just glad that he was reaching out to me. It really shows that I'm a priority for them.”

Wagner’s offer sheet also includes schools like Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Ole Miss, Florida State, North Carolina, Auburn and Texas A&M among others.

He’s already made a couple trips this Fall.

“I went to the Ohio State-Texas game and the Oklahoma-Michigan game,” he says.

After Notre Dame, he’ll be at Penn State on Sept. 27th and is also expected to check out Florida, Illinois and Auburn later.

These trips will be key as Wagner works toward trimming his list of offers.

“I'll probably announce a Top 5 after gamedays and then really focus in on those five schools for spring ball and official visits,” he says.

Wagner expects to make a final decision sometime next year after his official visits.
