Maalik Moore‍ made his third trip to Notre Dame this past weekend and it won’t be his last.

“I liked it,” the 2027 in-state athlete told Irish Sports Daily. “I liked it a lot. It was cool. It was a good experience.

“We got there a little early, so we walked around. We ate some food and I talked to all the coaches and stuff and then we chilled.”

The Fort Wayne native already has offers from schools like Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Missouri, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and Miami among others.

The Irish are recruiting the 6-foot-4, 192-pounder to play defensive back, but he spoke with both Irish defensive backs coach Mike Mickens and receivers coach Mike Brown.

“They said they liked me a lot and to keep in contact with them, come back down more,” Moore explained. “They want to get me down there a lot more.”

That’s something he definitely plans on doing.

“I liked them a lot,” he said of the Irish coaches. “They're really caring and they show a lot of love and compassion to the sport and it doesn't come just with football. It comes with everything, family and all that.”

Moore was impressed with the Irish’s 56-30 win over Purdue and the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“They did crazy,” he said. “They did real good.

“It was packed out. I'm pretty sure it was a packed out game.”

That atmosphere is one reason the North Side High School star keeps coming back.

“I just like the environment and I like watching my former teammate Tae Johnson,” he said. “I played with him my freshman year. I just look up to him a lot. He teaches me a lot about the game, so I look up to him a lot. I just like watching him and the team.”

Moore is happy to see Johnson getting on the field and making plays this year as a sophomore.

“It's really dope,” he said. “Coming from high school, knowing he was going to Notre Dame, knowing he's going to be able to do great, but seeing him do way better than what most people expected him to do is amazing.”

Moore has visits to Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Missouri scheduled later this fall, but will also stay in touch with the Irish.

“Just to build a stronger relationship with them.”
