BJ Johnson‍ had a good idea of what to expect when he visited Notre Dame for the Irish’s game against Purdue last month, but the 2027 Indiana defensive back was still impressed.

“It went good,” Johnson told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “The culture there is so nice. I'm not going to lie.

“Everybody is friendly, they make you feel at home.  Everybody is nice to each other. It just feels great to be there as a player. And then the fans, the fans are crazy. It's a great atmosphere there.”

The North Side High School standout had an understanding of what it would be like from his brother, sophomore safety Tae Johnson.

“Oh yeah,” Johnson said. “Most definitely.

“He's just glad to be there for real, to be a part of that.”

Johnson is still waiting on his first offer, but getting to see his brother making plays for the Irish encourages him that his time is coming.

“It just feels good,” Johnson said. “To even be in this position to do that and where I'm at right now, it just feels good. It makes me feel great about myself.”

While on campus, Johnson was able to talk with Notre Dame Director of Player Personnel, Jourdan Blake.

“I chatted up with him for a little bit,” said Johnson. “He was just talking about, 'If you come to this program, we're going to build you into your best self, and every player likes it here. It feels like home to them.'”

Johnson and the other recruits also got to see Notre Dame Stadium.

“We walked around the field,” he said. “We didn't get to go in the locker room though. That's one thing I did want to do. We didn't get to do that.

“But we took pictures, took videos, saw The Walk. We ate. We ate so good when we got there to check in. They had great, great food.”

Johnson also enjoyed the Irish’s 56-30 win over the Boilermakers.

“The game was good,” he said. “I really feel like we should have blown them out by more, though. I'm not going to lie. It was kind of a close game, but it wasn't a close game. But Jadarian Price, he's crazy.”

Johnson isn’t sure what visits will be next for him, but he wants to make sure he stays on the Irish radar and would like to return.

“For sure,” he said. “I want to go to the Boise State game.”

And he knows what he’s looking for in a college program.

“Development for sure. I don't want to go somewhere and not be developed, so development, the culture and the hospitality.”
