If Saturday was the final game between Notre Dame and USC, then it was a fitting end. 

Lincoln Riley was hired by USC to beat Notre Dame with his electric offensive playcalling and lead the Trojans to the Pete Carroll days. 

Marcus Freeman was the risky hire as he would maintain Notre Dame’s culture, but after that, it was unknown what he would bring to the table.
