2027 St. Clair County (Ala.) receiver Joshua Douthard‍ made his way to Notre Dame for the first time on Saturday.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder entered the visit with an open mind, but didn’t know what to expect when he arrived in South Bend.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder arrived in South Bend with an open mind and few expectations. A few hours later, he walked away calling it one of his best recruiting experiences to date after watching the Irish roll USC 34-24.

“It was electric,” stated Douthard. “The atmosphere was great. It most definitely exceeded expectations.”

The energy in Notre Dame Stadium, despite the rain, impressed Douthard as well as how he and his family were treated.

“The fans,” Douthard said when asked what stood out. “I've never seen the crowd go like that. All the visits that I have been to, Notre Dame was definitely No. 1. The coaching staff and the recruiting staff made everybody feel at home.”

Notre Dame is known for its hospitality and Douthard experienced it from the second he and his family stepped on campus.

“They were so nice as soon as we got there,” explained Douthard. “Some of them introduced themselves straight off the bat. Just welcoming us with open arms.”

Receivers coach Mike Brown made plenty of time for Douthard. The two had multiple talks and Douthard left impressed with Brown.

“The conversations were good,” Douthard explained. “He welcomed me with open arms as well as the assistant receiver coach. His personality was cool. We had a couple of conversations. He had a conversation with my family as well.”

The wet conditions limited Notre Dame’s passing attack, but the Alabama native still saw what he needed to see from the Irish offense.

“It was electric,” stated Douthard. “They overcame some bad things, which was mainly the weather. They executed on all cylinders.”

In the coming weeks, Douthard will also make trips to Alabama, North Carolina and Tulane.

After what he experienced on Saturday, will Notre Dame get him back on campus?

“Yes,” said Douthard. “Most definitely.”
