Rain didn’t put too much of a damper on Will Slagle’s trip to Notre Dame this past weekend.

“It was pretty awesome,” the 2027 Iowa offensive lineman told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “We had some weather delays, so it kept us inside, so we missed out on a couple things.

“But other than that, it was awesome. It was an awesome game. Then, just meeting the coaches and getting to interact with them was awesome.”

The 6-foot-4, 295-pounder already has offers from schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Northwestern, Arkansas, Minnesota, Auburn and Stanford

While in South Bend, the Grinnell High School standout had a conversation with Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.

“I talked to him for a long while and then there were a couple other recruiting guys,” Slagle said. “He did tell me he wishes I had been at camp, but then he talked about how the offering process is very slow.

“Then, we were talking about my injury that I had earlier on this season and talked through my recovery on that. I broke my foot right before the season started, and then I had surgery. They put a pin in the fifth metatarsal on the outside bone. I've been back the last two weeks.”

Slagle was impressed with Rudolph in person.

“I thought he was awesome,” said Slagle. “What really got my attention was when he said that they haven't gotten anybody on the o-line out of the Portal. There've been a couple guys who have left, but other than that, they haven't pulled anybody in.

“Everybody that's on the o-line, he's developed. That really caught my attention and that's one of the biggest things I took away from Coach Rudolph.”

That is one fact that almost all of the offensive linemen who have visited recently have taken away.

“That's important for me because I'm looking for a school that's going to develop me,” Slagle said. “I don't really want to be with guys that leave or they're coming in or they're on their third school.

“I want to be at a place where I'm with guys that have been through the program and developed with me.”

Slagle was impressed with Rudolph’s unit during Notre Dame’s 34-24 win over USC.

“I thought the offensive line played very good,” he said. “I watched a lot of those interior guys. I thought those interior guys were really good.”

As for what’s next for him and the Irish, Slagle hopes to have a better idea of that soon.

“Coach Rudolph did say he wants to call this week, so I'll probably talk to him and then probably just stay in touch and go on another visit sometime in the winter,” he said.

Slagle could make it for a camp in June, but his recruitment could also been finished by then as well.

“It all depends on the timing of my commitment,” he said. “Right now, I really have no idea on my commitment and the timing of it.”

He’s already visited Tennessee, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Nebraska and Wisconsin this season and has visits to Oregon and Auburn left on his slate.
