USC made a choice. They were understandably worried about their secondary holding up against Notre Dame’s passing game and rather than get exposed on their back end, they trusted that their front six/seven would be able to stop Notre Dame’s running game without much help.
I guess the thing with Notre Dame’s offense is that there aren’t great choices.
