Notre Dame earned their ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings more by how they’ve played than who they’ve beat. They’ll stay ranked as a CFP team and potentially improve their ranking the same way.

It was important to not just beat Navy. The Irish had to play well when they beat Navy. It can be definitively said that the mission was accomplished in a 49-10 beatdown.
