Kinnard Mahomes‍ made the trip out to South Bend for Notre Dame’s game against Navy this past weekend and the 2028 Maryland cornerback left impressed.

“I loved it,” the 6-foot, 165-pounder said. “It was an amazing atmosphere.”

What stood out more than anything was “the people there,” according to the Mount St. Joseph High School standout.

“I saw the love,” he added. “I saw the coaches, they love their players. Everybody was just tuned in.”

Mahomes noticed it from pregame to postgame.

“From the warmup to the whole game, the whole team, I loved the way they warmed up,” he said. “I loved their individual periods. I loved the way they talked to the coaches. The coaches seemed like they loved their players a lot and that's what I really loved about them.”

He was especially impressed with the Irish’s secondary during the 49-10 win over the Midshipmen and beforehand.

“The defensive backs, they were flawless,” he said. “I loved their technique. Their indy period was really good. I loved it. And in the game, you could see it.”

While on campus, Mahomes had the chance to speak with Notre Dame defensive backs coach Mike Mickens and defensive backs assistant coach Jevaughn Codlin.

“I actually liked their personalities,” Mahomes said. “They seemed like great people, definitely. For sure.”

Mahomes’ early offer sheet includes Syracuse, Boston College and Cincinnati among others.

He visited Penn State earlier this season, but doesn’t have any other trips planned at this point.

He would like to return to South Bend though.

“Hopefully I could visit up there one more time. I actually like it.”
