Pitt’s defense was only the third top-25 defense Notre Dame has faced this season and the first since they played Texas A&M. Pitt came into this game sixth in yards per play allowed, second in yards per carry allowed, and fifth in tackles for loss per game.
It’s more than fair to say this was the toughest test that the Irish have faced in the last couple of months. That proved to be the case in many ways.
