In the final week of CFP rankings before the final selections on Dec. 7, Notre Dame slots in at No. 10.
Following a 49-20 win over Stanford in the regular season finale, the Irish dropped one spot, behind No. 9 Alabama. The Crimson Tide are coming off a nail-bitting victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
If Alabama were to lose the SEC Championship game against No. 3 Georgia this Saturday, it would be interesting to see if that affects its position with the committee.
The key game to watch this weekend for Irish fans will be the Big XII title game between Texas Tech. and BYU. If the Cougars were to pull out a win, they would essentially become a bid-stealer for the final at-large spot that as of now belongs to Notre Dame.
If these rankings hold, Notre Dame would be traveling on the road to take on No. 7 Texas A&M in the First Round. The Irish have had recent success in College Station, knocking off the Aggies in the 2024 opener.
Miami slotted in at No. 12 in the rankings, but it will be interesting to see that if it comes down to the Irish and the Hurricanes, how much stock will the Week 1 loss factor into the decision.
“Teams that are idle can move up or down,” CFP Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek said.
The CFP playoff bracket will be released on Dec. 7 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN.
